I’ve been Busy

You may have noticed my website is a bit behind. You’ll have to pardon me. In the last 6 weeks, I’ve been to Dawson Creek, Prince George, Fort St John, Quesnel, Fort Saskatchewan, Lac La Biche, Edmonton, Calgary, Whistler, Barrie and Toronto – twice, and not in that order. Busy busy. And I spent the summer on the road too. And now it’s the holiday season, or as we call it in canadian comedy, the busy season. So you’ll have to pardon my inability to maintain a website.

It was a wild time. I had some amazing shows, some pretty cruddy ones (Fort Saskatchewan, im thinking you), I worked with Emo Philips, I bought a new hat and deodorant at a Turbo gas station in the middle of nowhere. In short, I lived, and lived well.

And that picture? That’s me at my Comedy Now taping. Thanks to Mike Harrison for sending me the shot from the green room. I had a great time. The crowd and I had no idea what to make of each other for the first few minutes. The crowd was full of people whom I wouldn’t really call ‘Brett Martin Fans’. More like ‘Fans of Beige Pants’. But I’m a wily veteran, you see, and as things went on, and the sweat breaks began, things got more fun, and in the end, I had a blast and I think they did, too. Thanks to everybody in the crowd.

I had so much of a blast, in fact, that I had sweat through my sweater. Yes – it’s possible. And that makes for bad tv, when the person on tv is a sweaty beast, I’m told. So, we had to re-tape my closing to the 2nd audience later in the night; perhaps the director thought it would take me that long to stop sweating. Anyways, the result? Without a doubt, the most enjoyable, electric 4 minutes of Comedy I’ve ever done. That, my friends, is life. I’m curious to see how it looks when it’s out.

All in all, I had a blast, and please accept that picture as evidence that I’m not some deadbeat loser who neglects his website and responsibilities; I’m busy comic who just finished his first television comedy special that neglects his website and responsibilities.

I’ll be back with updated dates, fun news, new videos of new jokes and more. There’s lots of stuff coming, and when you combine that with the fact I finally retrieved my website login information, I’ll be posting again real soon, you hear (read).

New School Thursdays – Comedy at The Cove

Every Thursday at 9pm. The Cove. 4th and Alma. Vancouver. $5.

There’s a new show in town. And this one’s a bit lippy.

New School is not just another Comedy Show. For one, its upstairs. That adds some flair right there. Secondly, we give you booze if you go onstage and complain about something. Your job, your neighbour, your gout, whatever. Balls up and bitch and we’ll give you some alcohol. Thirdly, there’s the Joke Board, which allows you to turn us into your joke monkeys. Have some ideas, topics or intentionally obscure subject you’d like a Comic to riff on? Write it down and we’ll go for it. Fourthly, which is a word I’ve never used before, whenever I’m in town, I’ll be there working on some new material. And finally, fifthly, which may not be a word, the show features plenty of the best Comics from Vancouver.

Come have fun with us, and get yourself some laughs and firewater to go with it.
